When you hear the term (white woman) (black woman) (Hispanic woman) ?

I don't think of any particular woman, but I do think of the women of various ethnicity with whom I've interacted on a personal or professional basis. I wonder why someone would use the term "white" or "black" or "hispanic" - what difference does that make? They're fellow human beings.
