Try using a compressed spring. The problem is getting the can to move exactly 1 meter. When the compressed spring is released, it will apply a force to the can. Trial and error will determine how much the spring must be compressed. You might also need a stop to limit the decompression of the spring. The rest of the design depends on your Imagination.
